Forming a vital link between Kowloon and Hong Kong Island, the iconic Star Ferry has been in operation since 1888 and today carries over 70,000 passengers a day, or 26 million a year, from one side of Victoria Harbour to the other. The car park adjacent to the Ferry Terminal is therefore heavily utilised on a daily basis.
Faced with a worn coating on the very steep entry and exit ramps and the need to minimise downtime of the car park, Hong Kong's Architectural Services Department turned to Flowcrete for a fast-track yet durable solution. Based on its extensive experience in the sector, Flowcrete proposed its rapid cure system Deckshield Rapide EDHD which is ready for use just two hours after installation.
Fully trafficable, watertight and UV stable, Deckshield Rapide EDHD is a solvent-free system that helps to reduce tyre squeal. Due to its superior bond strength, it can be installed over existing asphalt substrates. The system was formulated to provide the required degree of slip resistance on the steep ramps.
The Deckshield range of products offers dynamic crack-bridging properties and superior slip resistance. For internal decks, an upmarket, contemporary look is achieved thanks to Deckshield's seamless finish and light-reflective properties, enhancing car-park ambience and visitor experience, while reducing energy consumption.
A wide range of colours enables parking bays, driveways and pedestrian walkways to be clearly and safely delineated.
